Garden Products Recycling Business Plan
Hair Recycling Technologies’8217; (HRT), will have the business of: collecting, sanitizing, and selling human hair to be used in a consumer good. The home gardener will enjoy hair’s many elements and strong scent. Our products for recycled hair will be beneficial to them.
We believe that our product will be beneficial to the consumer as it encourages healthy plant life and discourages unwanted pests. Hair Recycling Technologies will first manufacture three products: HARE AWAY pest repellent, SMART SOIL hair fertilizer and an organic food for rosebushes.
Hair Recycling Technologies is entering a niche market since human hair has never been marketed before to be used in this manner. This is a novel and viable business concept that will be attractive to a large market. This venture offers exciting opportunities due to its unique and innovative nature.
One of the greatest aspects of this business is the fact that investors will be paid back in one year. However, the company will continue to have positive cash flows. In the ninth month of the first year, the business will break even.
We are well into our in-depth research on human hair’s positive elements and potential uses. Although this research will continue for the company, the first results have been positive.
HRT plans collaboration with the University of Georgia Horticulture Department. This idea has been embraced by the department. In addition, nurseries in the South Bend market have shown strong interest in carrying our product upon its release.
1.1 Keys to Success
Businesses who operate beauty salons or barber shops have had to deal with hair trimmings for a long time. Human hair is commonly disposed at large volumes in municipal landfills, especially in cities that have a lot of waste. In the last ten years, recycling and composting municipal solid waste has increased significantly due to federal and state mandates. There were more then 9,000 curbside recycling programs throughout America in 1997 and over 12,000 dropoff centers for recyclable material. The EPA set a goal to recycle 35 percent of solid waste by 2005 and maintained a per capita level of 4.3 pounds of solid waste per day. This is a great opportunity to recycle waste that has been destined for landfill and to allow the consumer to reap the many benefits of hair.
Our research shows that clippings from human hair have an exceptionally high nutrient level. This means that when mixed with potting dirt, it will produce a higher quality soil food and enhancer than the current market.
Human hair, along with silk, wool, and other organic material, has a high amount of nitrogen. Nitrogen encourages tissue development. An enormous amount of nitrogen can be recovered if the sweepings from a barbershop were used regularly to make compost heaps. A human hair weighing six to seven pounds contains approximately one pound of nitrogen. This is the same amount as in 100 to 200 lbs of manure. Furthermore, hair will fall apart as easily as feathers if it is well-moistened and stored in a compost heap.
Experiments with 32 varieties of roses by William Stafford, of Austin Texas, indicate that human hair used around the roots of bushes produces longer stems, larger buds, and deeper color tones. Stafford experimented with hair at the base of plants and found it accelerated growth, though slowly, since it took many months for the hair to decay. Stafford developed a plant recipe, which HRT can replicate. Stafford’s rose food recipe is not protected by patents.
1.2 Mission
Hair Recycling Technologies intends to provide the consumer with a recyclable resource so that they may benefit from human hair’s many properties and organic elements. In addition, we hope to give the consumer a positive feeling about recycling and the Earth’s environment.
1.3 Objectives
The idea of using recycled human hair as a soil enhancer, plant food and animal repellent is new and innovative for the plant and gardening industry. We think this product will be very successful because of its unique property and the many advantages it offers to gardeners.
This product will be attractive to the consumer not only because it has a growing market and is organic, but also because of its marketable value.
